Health is defined as "the state in which an idividual functions to the best of his capabilities, physically, intellectually, emotionally, and socially." School health services are an integral part of the School System and are designed to provide experiences that contribute to the maximal health of the student.
Role of the School Nurse School nurses strengthen and facilitate the educational process by improving and protecting the health status of students and by identification and assistance in the removal or modification of health-related barriers to the learning process for individual students. The major focus of school nursing services is the prevention of illness and the early detection and correction of health problems. The school nurse is especially prepared and uniquely qualified in preventive health, health assessment and referral procedures.
